The Open-Source Library is coming to WordCamp Philippines for the first time as part of Contributor Day experience. Inspired by a format introduced at WordCamp Asia in 2024 as the Human Library and later renamed the Open-Source Library in 2026, it creates space for meaningful one-on-one or small-group conversations rooted in real open-source experience.
Open source is not only about code, tools, or contribution tasks. It is also about people, shared journeys, and the moments that help us learn, grow, and feel welcome in a community. The Open-Source Library brings that human side of open source into focus by giving attendees the chance to connect with experienced contributors and community members through honest, thoughtful conversations.
What is the Open-Source Library?
The Open-Source Library is a curated conversation space where attendees can spend time with “Open-Source Books,” contributors and community members who are open to sharing their journeys, lessons, challenges, and insights from working in and around open source.
Topics may include contribution, leadership, volunteering, design, development, documentation, community building, mentorship, and personal growth. Some conversations may simply offer a chance to ask questions, listen, and learn from someone else’s experience.

How It Works
The Open-Source Library runs alongside Contributor Day and is completely optional. Attendees may join a conversation at selected times throughout the day, depending on availability.
Open-Source Books will have listed topics and available time slots so participants can explore what conversations are being offered. On-site facilitators or librarians will help guide attendees, match them with available sessions, and keep the flow organized and welcoming.

Who Can Participate

The Open-Source Library is open to all WordCamp Philippines attendees joining Contributor Day.
You may be completely new to WordPress or open source. You may be attending your first Contributor Day. You may be returning after a long break, exploring where you fit, or looking for guidance from people who have walked a similar path. You may also be an experienced contributor who simply wants to hear a different perspective.
There is no single right way to participate. You may come with questions, stories, uncertainty, or simple curiosity. What matters most is a willingness to engage with respect, openness, and care.
Guidelines
To help keep the Open-Source Library safe, welcoming, and meaningful for everyone, we ask all participants to follow these guidelines:
Respectful Engagement
Treat every Open-Source Book and participant with courtesy and appreciation. Listen actively, speak thoughtfully, and approach each conversation with empathy.
Follow the Code of Conduct
All sessions in the Open-Source Library are part of the WordCamp Philippines event environment and must follow the event Code of Conduct.
Ask mindful questions
Please ask questions with curiosity and good intent. Avoid questions that may feel intrusive, disrespectful, or unrelated to the purpose of the conversation.
Respect boundaries
Open-Source Books are welcome to decline or redirect questions they are not comfortable answering. Personal boundaries should always be respected.
